Abstract
The main stages of the development of quality of life research in health care in Russian Federation are presented. The background of its formation in the nineties of the XX century is given. The role of Academician Ju. L. Shevchenko it the development of quality of life research is emphasized. The analysis of modern trends of quality of life research in clinical medicine is provided, the core achievements in the field in Russian Federation are described. The experience of the application of quality of life assessment in different areas of clinical medicine is presented, its perspectives are formulated. The value of quality of life assessment in clinical medicine for the implementation of patient-centered care in Russia is highlighted.
