Abstract
In the current 2022, the neurological department of the Pirogov Center turns 20 years old. The foundation was laid by Yuri Leonidovich Shevchenko back in 1993 within the walls of the Military Medical Academy. On his initiative, a scientific group of specialists from the Departments of Cardiovascular Surgery and Nervous Diseases was created to study neurological complications of operations on the heart and cerebral vessels - cardioneurology.
Yu.L. Shevchenko founded the Pirogov Center in 2002, which provided unprecedented conditions for the implementation of this direction. With the aim of deeper integration of medical, scientific and educational activities on the basis of the Pirogov Center, the National Center (later - the Clinic) for the pathology of cerebral circulation was created (headed by A.N. Kuznetsov).
The Center became one of the first medical institutions in Russia, where the method of systemic thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke was applied and mastered. Over the past 20 years, it has become a routine practice.
In 2015, the neurological service of the Pirogov Center was headed by Oleg Ivanovich Vinogradov, a successor of A.N. Kuznetsov, who continued and raised the medical, educational and scientific work of the service to a new level.
We can summarize that the productive idea of developing cardioneurological problems proposed by Yuriy Shevchenko about 30 years ago became the cornerstone in the foundation of the neurological service of the Pirogov Center and led to brilliant scientific and practical results.
