The contribution of Yury Leonidovich Shevchenko to the creation of the Ophthalmology Center Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center

Ophthalmology Center Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center is one of the largest centers in Russia, where leading specialists help big number of patients. It was founded in 2003 with the participation of Yuri Leonidovich Shevchenko and Mikhail Mikhailovich Shishkin and continues to develop to this day. The center includes outpatient and inpatient departments, and this association makes it possible to monitor the patient continuously and determine treatment tactics from the moment of initial appeal.

On the basis of the Ophthalmology Center, as part of the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education, there is a Department of Eye Diseases. Residents, graduate students and doctors who improve their qualifications are trained on the basis of the department. The staff of the center and students of the department have the opportunity to get acquainted with constantly emerging treatment methods and the latest equipment, applying knowledge in daily work and helping patients.

The staff of the center and students of the department are actively engaged in science, participate in competitions, organize conferences and online lectures with broadcasts in the format of «live surgery».
