Abstract
Currently, antibiotic therapy is of leading importance in the prevention of complications after operations on the abdominal organs. With prolonged use, antibiotic-associated diarrhea may develop, which in 80–90% is idiopathic in nature and independently passes after the withdrawal of antibiotics. 10–20% of patients develop pseudomembranous colitis caused by C. difficile and present a serious problem for the health of patients, up to a fatal outcome 13–38%. The article presents a case of successful treatment of pseudomembranous colitis in a 70-year-old patient after laparoscopic abdominal-anal rectal resection, performed for cancer of the lower and middle ampullary rectum рT3N0M0G1.
Keywords: rectal cancer, pseudomembranous colitis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, abdominal-anal resection of the rectum.
